Hope Groups

Bible on lap at homeHope groups are small group bible studies, and they are a vital part of the discipleship ministry of Hope Christian Church. Practically speaking, Hope groups are groups of 8-14 adults that meet regularly to study the bible and encourage one another. As we grow larger as a church body, these smaller groups are even more important to our health, as a place where individuals and couples can belong and connect with other people. Hope groups are primarily co-ed, mixed groups of married couples and singles, but we also have a couple groups for women only. Our groups meet in homes on different evenings throughout Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Keep reading below to find out how and why to get involved.

What exactly do Hope Groups do?

Hope Groups typically meet either weekly or every other week, and the typical meeting time can be anywhere from 1-2 hours. All of our groups consist of three predictable elements. Bible study, fellowship, and prayer. If you are a part of a Hope Group, you will get to study the bible through a variety of guides and topics, and have a chance to discuss and ask questions to learn more. You will also get to connect and share at a deeper level with a small group of people, and learn from them. You’ll also know that there is a dedicated group of people in your life that you can share concerns with, and pray together with.

Why should I get involved in a Hope Group?

There are 3 great reasons to get involved.

1. Hope Groups provide a place where the truth of the Bible is applied to change lives.
These small groups are a great environment, where each member can learn for themselves, discuss the truth of the bible, ask questions, and get answers. Ultimately, the Bible is meant to change your life. Hope groups are a great place to discover what changes we can each make to grow closer to God.

2. Hope Groups provide a place where our relationships with God and other people can be deepened.
When you really think about it, life boils down to relationships. The right relationships are what make life better and more interesting. Our relationship with God is meant to be the foundation for our lives, and the one relationship that gives all other their value. Hope Groups are a great place to learn more about how to grow closer to God, to know more about him, and more about how he loves us. We also have the opportunity to grow closer to others who are trying to deepen their relationship with God. It is also in our groups that we can talk with each other and learn more about how to impact those in our lives that don’t yet know the love of Jesus.

3. Hope Groups provide a place where every member knows that they are cared for.
In a large church, it can be easy to “slip through the cracks” or worship anonymously. And while some people prefer that, when a crisis comes, you want to know that there is a group of people who know your name and care about you. Often our Hope group members are the first ones to show up at a home or hospital when a caring touch or word of prayer is needed. Hope groups are also a great place to simply find a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, which you just can’t always find in life.

How can I get involved in a Hope Group?

The best way to get involved is to call or e-mail Rolland Bryar, our Associate Minister, who coordinates our discipleship program.
